Best Time to Visit Kashmir in 2025:
Complete Month-by-Month Guide
Kashmir is one of the rare destinations in India that looks stunning in every season — but the "best" time to visit depends entirely on what kind of experience you are looking for. This guide breaks down every month so you can plan the perfect Kashmir trip in 2025.
Quick Answer: Best Time to Visit Kashmir
Spring in Kashmir (April – June): A Riot of Colors
Spring is arguably the most popular and spectacular time to visit Kashmir. April marks the blooming of the Indira Gandhi Tulip Garden in Srinagar — Asia's largest tulip garden — where over 1.5 million tulips in 60 varieties burst into color against the backdrop of snow-capped Zabarwan Mountains.
Temperatures range from 10°C to 25°C, making it ideal for outdoor activities like sightseeing, Shikara rides, and garden visits. Gulmarg transforms from a ski resort into a meadow of wildflowers, and Pahalgam's Lidder River is at its most pristine. April–June is also when the famous Kashmir Valley Tulip Festival takes place.
Book early: March, April, and May are peak season, and packages sell out fast. We recommend booking at least 45 days in advance.
Summer in Kashmir (July – August): Green & Less Crowded
July and August bring the monsoon to the rest of India, but Kashmir experiences a relatively dry season with occasional showers. The valley is impossibly lush and green — think emerald meadows, waterfalls at full flow, and the freshest mountain air you'll ever breathe.
Tourist crowds thin out significantly in July–August, meaning you'll get better hotel rates, more availability, and a more peaceful experience. This is the ideal time for trekking at Sonamarg, Pahalgam, and Gulmarg.
Autumn in Kashmir (September – November): Golden Wonderland
September marks the beginning of Kashmir's most underrated season. The crowds have cleared, the temperature is a comfortable 5°C to 20°C, and the landscape begins its spectacular transformation. By October, the Chinar trees — Kashmir's iconic plane trees — turn brilliant shades of gold, amber, and crimson.
The Dal Lake takes on a different character in autumn — mist rising from the water in the mornings, Chinar leaves floating on the surface, and the golden light casting everything in a warm glow. Saffron harvesting also takes place in October–November in Pampore, just 15 km from Srinagar.
Winter in Kashmir (December – March): Snow Wonderland
Winter transforms Kashmir into a breathtaking snow globe. Heavy snowfall (locally called "Chillai Kalan") blankets the valley in pristine white, and Gulmarg becomes one of Asia's finest ski destinations. The Gondola cable car takes you to elevations of 3,980m (Phase 1) and 4,390m (Phase 2) for world-class powder skiing.
Dal Lake sometimes partially freezes in January–February, creating a surreal landscape of ice and snow around the houseboats. Temperatures drop to -5°C to -15°C, so pack your warmest clothes!
